Sh-polypeptide-47 is a synthetic peptide derived from collagen (specifically collagen type 1). Its function in skin care products is primarily as a conditioning ingredient designed to help support skin’s extracellular matrix.

There isn’t a depth of independent research yet on this peptide’s abilities on its own, primarily because it is most often seen as part of a water-based blend in cosmetics formulations. In such blends, the use levels range from 0.1–1%. The Sh-polypeptide-47 is joined by glycerin, xanthan gum, sodium benzoate, citric acid, and potassium sorbate.
